프랑스의 조각가, 화가, 건축가 바로크 양식의 매우 독창적인 작품들로 유명하다. 젊은시절

(1640-43) 이탈리아로 건너가 벽화가인 '피에트로 다 코르토나'(Pietro da Cortona,

1596-1669, Italian Baroque painter and architect)에게 고용되어 로마에 있는

바르베리니 궁전과 피렌체에 있는 피티 궁전의 천장 장식을 꾸미는 일을 도왔다. 1659년

파리에 갔으며, 루이 14세의 재정총감인 푸케의 주목을 받았다.1661년 헤라클레스상(지금의

루브르 박물관에 있는 '갈리아의 헤라클레스 Hercule gaulois')을 의뢰받았는데,그것을

조각할 대리석을 고르기 위해 이탈리아에 가 있는 동안 푸케는 권력에서 밀려났다.여러 해

동안 이탈리아에 머물러 있으면서 제노바에서 조각가로서 상당한 명성을 얻었다.그곳에서

만든 뛰어난 작품으로는 산타마리아 데카리냐노 교회에 있는 '성 세바스티아누스'가 있다.

우리의 존재와 행동을 비춰 줄 뿐

자신이 가진 최상의 것을 세상에 주라
